Explore the Kastro Village

This village offers mind-blowing views of the Aegean Sea. The village got its name because of the castle that was built during the 15th and 16th century in the period of Frankish domination of the island. Although the highlight of the village is the castle, there are lots of unique places that you can explore. You can wander around the narrow streets, stunning old mansions, small courtyards and lots of ancient churches that were constructed during the 16th century.

Stroll around Apollonia

Apollonia is the capital of Sifnos and it was built on three neighboring hills. The best way to explore the city is to simply wander around its narrow streets that are surrounded by traditional Cycladic houses with small squares. One of the best things to do here is to go sightseeing at the charming boutiques to look for a perfect souvenir. You should also try out mouth-watering lunch at the terrace of a café or go for a drink at one of the bars in the town. The town has a laid-back vibe and you can easily strike a conversation with the locals.

Go sightseeing at the churches on the island

This island is popularly known for its numerous churches. According to some sources, it is estimated between 235 and 365 churches can be found on the island which makes it a great spot to explore churches. The most famous church on the island is the Chapel of Seven Martyrs and it can be found at the entrance of Kastro. The church can be found on the top of a cliff which faces the sea. Another great place to visit is the Monastery of Panagia Chrissopigi which is located on the southeastern part of the island. The monastery is constructed on a peninsula which connects to the island through a bridge. The monastery was built during the 16th century and it is usually associated with a plethora of myths and history.

Explore the Archaeological Museum of Sifnos

This museum can be found in a traditional building in Kastro and it houses a wide range of collections. The collections in the museum include a wide range of sculptures like headstones, pottery found in the castle ruins, and architectural pieces and statues which dates from the Archaic era to the Roman era.

Go sightseeing at a pottery workshop

Sifnos is popularly known for its long tradition of pottery. One of the best things to do while on the island is to learn in detail about this unique art forms. The best place to go is Sifnos Atsonios pottery workshop which is located in Vathi close to Tsopos beach. The pottery workshop is among the oldest pottery workshops on the island and it was opened in 1870. The workshop is maintained and managed by Anthony Atsonios and his son and you can pay a visit here to watch while they work.

Go beach hopping in Sifnos Greece

Sifnos houses some of the best beaches in the world and you should make sure you visit some while on the island. The highlight of the island is the Platis Gialos beach. Another top beach is the Vathi beach which is one of the most attractive beaches on the island.
