Day 1: Giannena to Parga

Arrival in Giannena

Your adventure begins in Giannena, a charming city known for its historical significance and beautiful lake. After landing, pick up your rental car and take a moment to visit Lake Pamvotida, one of the most beautiful lakes in Greece. The lake’s serene atmosphere, surrounded by mountains, provides a perfect introduction to the natural beauty of the region.

Drive to Parga

From Giannena, embark on a scenic drive to Parga, a picturesque coastal town famous for its crystal-clear waters and vibrant colors. The journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, with lush landscapes and glimpses of the Ionian Sea accompanying you along the way.

Explore Parga and Dine in Agia Village

Upon arriving in Parga, take some time to explore the town itself, known for its colorful houses, charming alleys, and lively atmosphere. Parga’s main beach, Kryoneri Beach, is located right in the town center, offering a perfect spot for an easy and accessible swim. This small pebble beach is known for its clear, shallow waters, making it ideal for families and casual swimmers. The beach is surrounded by cafes and tavernas, providing plenty of options for refreshments or a light meal while enjoying the view of the nearby Panagia Islet.

For a quieter beach experience, consider visiting Valtos Beach, located just a short walk or boat ride from the town center. Valtos Beach is larger than Kryoneri and offers a mix of sand and pebbles, with plenty of space to relax. It’s well-organized, with sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent, as well as water sports facilities for the more adventurous.

Dine in Agia Village

After spending some time at the beach, make your way to the quaint village of Agia for a delicious meal at Theios Taverna. Known for its warm hospitality and authentic Greek cuisine, Theios Taverna offers a variety of dishes that capture the flavors of the region. While there I got the steak and we also got some appetizers that were amazing!

Day 2: Discover Preveza

A short drive from Parga and a little bit of drive from Preveza is the Acheron River a must-see destination. Known in Greek mythology as the “River of Woe,” the Acheron was believed to be one of the rivers leading to the underworld. Today, it is a place of stunning natural beauty, where you can experience the crystal-clear waters, lush greenery, and dramatic gorges. The river offers several activities such as:

• River trekking: Walk through the shallow parts of the river and explore its cool, refreshing waters surrounded by high cliffs and lush vegetation.
• Kayaking and canoeing: Paddle through the serene waters, enjoying the tranquility and scenic views.

After exploring the Acheron River, head back to Preveza for a relaxing evening.

For dinner, consider visiting Treli Garida, a popular seafood restaurant known for its delicious shrimp dishes. Alternatively, try Rebetiko Steki, where you can enjoy traditional Greek music alongside your meal. Don’t miss the chance to taste the local specialty, ntakos—a Cretan salad made with barley rusk, fresh tomatoes, and feta cheese.
