Check the oldest district in Athens with its outstanding scenery…

Plaka is the oldest section of Athens surrounded with its neoclassical mansions, houses with their awesome roofs, pedestrian streets and its small winding roads with their steps, is built on top of the residential areas of the ancient town and is known as the “Neighborhood of the Gods” due to its proximity to the Acropolis and its many archaeological sites.

In Plaka you can find almost anything from tourist shops that have souvenir’s and antiques to jewelry stores, from Museums to small churches, from hidden tavern’s to bars&restaurants on the hill. It was  known as the “Turkish quarter of Athens “in the years of Ottoman rule, it was developed mostly around the ruins of Ancient Agora of Athens that has been continuously inhabited since antiquity.

Let’s skip history and talk about what you will see, believe me there is no better place in Athens for a walk, you will see/experience a neighborhood that will make you feel like you are in a Greek Island, that neighborhood is called Anafiotika featuring traditional Cycladic culture, it lies in the northern east side of the Acropolis hill and the first houses were built in the era of Otto when workers from the Aegean island Anafi came to Athens.

Walking around there you will be amazed by the beauty of the houses with the neoclassic colors, their unique architecture that differs from one to another, the hidden paths and well preserved gardens. You can easily get lost in its lanes but make sure you enjoy it. Even if it is summer or winter plaka has many places to offer its visitors, cozy coffee shops, trails, hidden spots with great view of the city and the traditional nightlife where you can listen classic Greek songs. If you are on budget, walk, see, relax and enjoy the view and the architecture of this part of Athens
