Everything you need to know about Athens metro system

The Athens metro is a rapid transit system in Greece which servers almost all Attica, it was constructed in 2000 in order to decrease traffic congestion and clean up the environment by reducing Athens’ smog level. Until 28 January 2000, Line 1 was the only rapid-transit line in Athens and Piraeus, until 17 June 2011 the operational management of Athens metro network was similar to that of the London Underground network.

Nowadays, the two lines of the Athens metro (red and blue) serve approximately 700.000 passengers on a daily basis, line 1 of ISAP(green) serves more than 415.000 passengers

Line M1 (Green Line): Piraeus – Faliro – Moschato – Kallithea – Tavros – Petralona – Thissio – Monastiraki – Omonia – Victoria – Attiki – Aghios Nikolaos – Kato Patissia – Aghios Eleftherios – Ano Patissia – Perissos – Pefkakia – Nea Ionia – Iraklio – Irini – Neratziotissa – Maroussi – KAT – Kifissia

Line M2 (Red Line): Elliniko – Argyroupoli – Alimos – Ilioupoli – Aghios Dimitrios*Alexandros Panagoulis – Dafni – Aghios Ioannis – Neos Kosmos – Sygrou Fix – Akropoli – Syntagma – Panepistimio – Omonia – Metaxourghio – Larissa Station – Attiki – Sepolia  – Aghios Antonios
